Mark is Principal and Design Director for POINTOFVIEW, responsible for all creative direction.
Mark trained as a furniture and product designer, but quickly found a passion for light, which mixed his interest in architecture and product design.
He has been working as a lighting designer for over 15 years; and is well regarded internationally as a leader in the field, being sought out for projects internationally from USA to China.
Being welcomed as a 'Professional Member' of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) is a reflection of his abilities and depth of experience as position which is appointed by his peers.
Before moving to Australia Mark worked with a number of international lighting design studios in Europe. Building Design Partnership is one of the world's largest multi-disciplinary design practices; Isometrix Lighting + Design is regarded as one of the world's leading boutique Lighting Design Consultancies and Light Design Partnership which was founded by Andre Tammes, as pioneer of the lighting design industry.
His experience covers collaborations with the world's leading designers and architects, including six Pritzker Prize winning architects; across sectors of work from high end residential and hospitality, such as the multi award winning Hotel Puerta America Madrid; with designers such as Zaha Hadid and Jean Nouvel and master of minimalism John Pawson, to civic works, such as Hong Kong Airport and Edificio Forum Building Barcelona; with renowned architects Aedas and Herzog and De Meuron.
Mark's projects have been recognized with multiple national and international award's including, Hotel Puerta America, Qantas First Class Lounge, Optiver HQ and The Darling Hotel.
Marks product design background is what stands him above his peers. Drawing on the skills developed and required for the highly detailed nature of furniture design and an essential understanding of form, proportion, materiality and texture; Mark brings both an enhanced understanding of light, but also bespoke elements to projects, that go beyond pure illumination, influencing major architectural features, colours and materials, which are enhanced with light.
Mark has developed a detailed understanding of the interplay of light with architecture and is able to enhance a space without imposing upon it, through detail integration of light through a collaborative design process.
Beyond the creative aspects of this industry, Mark has a clear understanding of the commercial realities of project work, and has demonstrated, through the commercial success of completed projects, that his involvement not only brings aesthetic success, but also adds to the financial viability of projects.
